Music

We want all children to develop a passion for music and have to opportunity to perform and create their own, using music as a form of expression. We use Charanga Model English Curriculum to support our teaching of music which allows children to experience different styles of music both historic and contemporary. Children learn to listen to and perform a range of musical pieces. Alongside the strands in our music curriculum which build progressively throughout the year groups, our teaching also focuses on elements of music, giving students the vocabulary and understanding to discuss and perform confidently. These are: pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, timbre, structure, texture and notation.

We have specialist music teachers who come into school to teach students to perform a mucical instrument (ukulele) and students also learn the glockenspiel through their classroom music sessions. We have two school choirs, one is our Rainbow Connection Pheasant Bank Academy Choir which children can audition to join from Year 4 onwards and is run by professional choirmasters. Our RC Pheasant Bank Academy Choir takes part in a number of competitions and we were incredibly proud to host the Music for Youth Regional Festival 2022 for schools across Doncaster. We also have our school choir which is open to all children as an afterschool club, our school choir performs at events such as young voices, sing out and local Christmas events. We also offer small group tuition for children with an interest in studying a specific instrument.
